There's a concept in computer system design called **Waterbed Theory** that I think applies to our political system.
It goes something like, whenever you "push down" into a part of a system to make things easier, another part of the system will "rise" and become more complex.
The waterbed theory exists because some systems require a minimum amount of complexity. So, as you continue to refine your system, at some point, you stop eliminating complexity and simply start moving it from one area to another.
Similarly, our country’s particular flavor of capitalism requires a minimum amount of exploitation. So, applying justice in one area, will necessarily cause greater injustice somewhere else.
This idea is one reason why they want us to work within the system to get things done.
For example, if the prison industrial complex requires mass incarceration for free labor, but we stop imprisoning people for weed, they'll simply think up another excuse to arrest us.
Chances are, that excuse is already underway.
